Founded over 100 years ago, Vernon Chapel AME Church has stood as a beacon of Christian hope, spiritual refuge, and grassroots service. From our humble beginnings to our historic sanctuary today, generations of families have gathered here to experience God's grace and build enduring community.

Rooted in the African Methodist Episcopal Church tradition, our mission blends vibrant gospel worship with an unyielding commitment to social justice, youth empowerment, and local community care throughout Flint.

Our Leadership

Vernon Chapel is blessed under the visionary leadership of our 23rd pastor, Reverend Douglas "Doug" Banks, who was appointed to lead the congregation in 2018. Pastor Banks brings a dynamic preaching style and a profound dedication to bridging the gap between the church and the community, carrying forward our 100-year legacy of seeking to heal the hurt of the world and uplift those around us.
